Grading terminology for colored diamonds was developed in the 1990s, and the hue or color of the stone is preceded by one of the following terms: faint, very light, light, fancy light, fancy, fancy intense, fancy dark, fancy deep and fancy vivid. Brown and yellow hues exclude the use of the faint and very light terms. Clarity grading terminology for fancy color diamonds remains the same as for colorless and near-colorless diamonds.
